Polish Christmas Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup butter
1 cup shortening
2 cups white sugar
5 eggs
7 to 8 cups all-purpose flour
6 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 ounce anise flavoring

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Cream the butter, shortening and the sugar together.
  3. Stir in the eggs and continue to beat.
  4. Add the anise flavoring.
  5. Stir in 7 cups of the flour, the baking powder and the salt.
  6. Mix until the dough is soft.
  7. Add the additional cup of flour if needed.
  8. Chill the dough.
  9. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough and cut with cookie cutters.
  10. Place cookies on greased cookie sheets.
  11. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 12 to 15 minutes.
  12. Frost and decorate when cookies are cooled.
Makes 5-6 Dozen
